What is Naloxone?
Naloxone is a lifesaving medication that reverses opioid overdose by blocking opioid receptors in the brain.

Naloxone comes in two forms: an injectable and a nasal spray. It's available over the counter in local pharmacies. The nasal spray is commonly available in the community.

​Naloxone is FDA approved and has no side effects.

How do you use it?​
It works in 1-2 minutes and can administer an extra dose every 90 seconds if needed. It's effects last up to 40 to 90 minutes in the body.

If administered to someone with opioid addiction, it may result in opioid withdrawal symptoms. These symptoms include:

Body Aches

Diarrhea

Fever

Goosebumps

Sweating

Runny Nose

Stomach Cramping

Shivering or Trembling

Weakness
-
Nervousness
-
Sneezing
-
Yawning

Nausea or Vomiting

Increased Heart Rate & Blood Pressure

Restlessness or Irritability

Can Naloxone be used on pets?
Naloxone can also be used on dogs. If you suspect a dog has sniffed or consume anything that contains any kind of opioid and shows any signs of an overdose, you adminstrate naloxone nasal spray.

Dogs can experience life-threatening opioid overdoses, but naloxone can be used to reverse these effects. Pet owners should recognize the signs of an overdose and consult a veterinarian if they suspect their dog has ingested opioids. Some signs to look for are:

Drowsiness

Difficulty standing

Failure to respond to command

Blank stares

Weakness

Inability to breathe

Naloxone is available over the counter in local pharmacies like CVS Pharmacy or Walgreens. Some brands of Naloxone nasal spray include Narcan (4mg), Kloxxado (8 mg), and Anmeal (4mg).
