Our Mission

The mission of Communities in Action is to prevent substance misuse through collaborative programs and initiatives that promote healthier lifestyles and decrease the underage use of alcohol, meth, cannabis, and opioids.

Our goal is to empower individuals and communities with the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.

Through our efforts, we strive to create a safer, healthier, and more resilient future for all.

Get to know our partnered community serving organizations and the services they offer! 

Phoenix House California is dedicated to helping young people, women, and men overcome substance use disorder to live extraordinary lives in recovery. Since 1979, we have been providing substance use disorder, behavioral health, and family services to anyone who needs our help, often offering the only chance of recovery to the undeserved and uninsured in our communities. Each year, over 44,000 people receive our life-saving services through residential and outpatient treatment, recovery support, in-custody substance use disorder and mental health services, as well as school-based prevention and mental health programs.

Founded in the early 1970’s, the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence of the San Fernando Valley [NCADD-SFV] is a non-profit community-based organization dedicated to providing multiple levels of substance-use disorder (SUD) outpatient treatment services to those in need of recovery, as well as education and prevention services to schools and the community regarding the disease of alcoholism and drug dependence/abuse and the negative effects abuse/addiction has on the individual, their family, and their community.

Pueblo y Salud's (PYS) mission is to improve social conditions of communities within Los Angeles County by creating opportunities for self-empowerment. PYS focuses on education, civic participation, health, culture, and drugs/alcohol/ tobacco prevention services. PYS’s vision is  to tear down economic, political, social and educational barriers and in doing so, work towards liberation from oppression of all world citizens.

For over 40 years, Child & Family Center has built on what our founders started by providing quality care and services to children and families in need. Although the passion and purpose stayed the same, as a vibrant and mission-driven organization, we have grown and evolved to meet the changing needs of the communities we serve and expectations of our funders. we provide comprehensive prevention, early intervention, diagnostic evaluation and counseling, behavioral therapeutic services, outpatient drug and alcohol treatment and prevention services as well as domestic violence services, and emergency 30-day DV shelter for children, adolescents and adults in the Santa Clarita, Antelope and San Fernando Valleys.

Tarzana Treatment Centers, Inc. is a full-service behavioral healthcare organization that provides high quality, cost-effective substance abuse and mental health treatment to adults and youth. We are a non-profit, community-based organization that operates a psychiatric hospital, residential and outpatient alcohol and drug treatment centers and family medical clinics. Since its founding in 1972, TTC has emerged as a cutting-edge provider in the field of integrated behavioral health care. Using innovation and a long-term vision, TTC has combined typical alcohol and drug treatment services with medical care, mental health, housing, case management and HIV/AIDS services to form an integrated delivery system that has set the standard that other organizations emulate.

Sarah "Red" Redfield

Head of the Communities in Action Coalition

Sarah "Red" Redfield comes to us from the prevention world in New York City. Red has worked in the many sectors of prevention for over 10 years. She has done community work, worked in the college space, and worked with many coalitions. Like a typical millennial she loves to travel, is obsessed with her dog, and loves a hike.
